We’re also delighted to introduce our co-Deputy Chairs, Theresa Corballis, Business Development- EdgeCentre, Iot, Smart Data solutions at Chorus and Kriv Naicker, Founder and Managing Director, at Synaptec. More great news for IoT in New Zealand

Watercare is expanding its Smart Metering rollout in Auckland, with plans to accelerate the initiative and complete the region within a few years. Meanwhile, Wellington Water has released a Request for Information (RFI) for approximately 135,000 smart meters to be implemented over the next 5-6 years. This is a significant step towards smarter resource management across the motu.

Since 2017, we’ve been advocating for the massive potential of smart meters and IoT sensors. Our Accelerating a Connected New Zealand report revealed that leveraging IoT technology could unlock billions – YES, BILLIONS – in economic growth and productivity for Aotearoa.

Steven Dirven, our new co-Chair, shared his thoughts on these transformative projects:

“We’re very excited about the data-driven impact IoT technology is having across many industries. There’s a clear trend toward sustainability-led use cases, which are transforming how we monitor and understand the use of precious resources like water. Future-focused organisations like Watercare are embracing this shift, exploring approaches to automatically measure water usage at nearly 500,000 addresses in Auckland. Similarly, Wellington Water’s recent RFI for around 135,000 smart meters highlights the growing momentum for IoT-driven solutions nationwide.”

Thank You for a Great Year
