Last month, our executive council chair, Kriv Naicker, and executive director, Alison Mackie, hosted our annual general meeting where we presented on the previous 12 months, our strategic vision, core activities for 2023, welcomed the new executive council, and said some farewells.
It’s been an interesting year with generative AI being all that anyone could talk about, but it’s also been a great time for us as we delved into the importance of IoT in the data story conversation – let’s not forget that AI is only as impressive as the data it consumes. This was a key focus of ours this year and was a key part of our conversations in our Techweek events, our webinars, working group projects, and publications. Thank you to everyone who got involved in our work this year – it’s been one to remember!
As part of our annual general meeting, we also introduced our new executive council for 2024. We are proud to announce a few new faces in our team, including Theresa Corballis (Chorus), Jonny Breen (Mott MacDonald), Fraser Paine (Aware Group), Winston Seah (Victoria University of Wellington), Leo Ovshtein (Spark), and Edward Moore (Thinxtra). We’re excited to see so many new faces on the council and having them share their IoT expertise with us to help build a connected Aotearoa.
With welcomes comes some farewells. We would also like to extend our sincere gratitude and farewell to our departing members of our executive council. Thank you to Yilei Zhang (University of Canterbury), Jonathan McFarlane (Spark), Shaun McBride (Thinxtra), and Tristan Ilich (TUANZ). Thank you for all your hard work within our council and working groups over the last few years. We wish you well on your next ventures and no doubt we will continue to see your contribution to the wider alliance in 2024.
Christmas is right around the corner and we’re gearing up for the end of the year, and are keen to bring everyone together for some drinks in the sun. Keep an eye out for our save the date!
We’re also excited to announce that we’re supporting the University of Auckland with their ICT Graduate School on their Green Futures Hackathon.
