It is well known that Kiwi’s punch above their weight, just ask Youness Baalla and Uladzislau Smiahlikau who lost to David Nyika on his way to becoming the heavyweight boxing bronze medalist at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
New Zealand’s record breaking performance at the games was a true display of the Olympic motto Citius, Altius, Fortius – Latin for Faster, Higher, Stronger. It is with this in mind that LocationTech would like to remind our readers that Asia Pacific Spatial Excellence Awards are back this year, and many Kiwi companies have already submitted their nominations for the awards whether as individuals or for specific projects.
Traditionally New Zealand has done well in this space, with award winning projects demonstrating just how capable our local Location Technology community is. With this in mind, we look forward to the awards ceremony being held later in the year.
LocationTech is vendor agnostic but we know that we have many Esri users. Last month saw the Esri User Conference, held virtually again due to Covid-19. The conference provides a wealth of information for Esri users and because broad geospatial themes are also discussed non-Esri users may also find value in some of the sessions. If you were unable to attend, you are still able to catch up as many of the presentations including the plenary are now available online. Given that a number of Kiwi’s may have headed to the slopes for the school holidays it is worth checking out Telluride presentation which looks at the use of Location Technology for ski field management.
Later this month (25 August) LocationTech and BlockchainNZ are holding a Connect Event in Auckland. This will be a great event to learn more about how Blockchain and Location based technologies are working together to create powerful solutions. Come along and learn more, meet with others and see what Blockchain and Location Technology can do for your organisation.
Finally, let’s return to the Olympics, unfortunately this year Covid-19 meant that there were no spectators which is a great shame as it would have no doubt been an amazing experience, not least from a Location Tech perspective if this Mini Tokyo 3D map is anything to go by.
